The family of Francis and Elizabeth Capstick
Francis was born in Dent, Yorkshire, in 1819. He married Elizabeth Mitton in 1848 at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Yorkshire, the daughter of William and Mary Mitton who farmed at Nether Lodge, Selside (a small village to the North of Horton-in- Ribblesdale). Francis and Elizabeth had eight children - six daughters and two sons. Francis was a farmer for most of his adult life at Parks, Deepdale, Dent. The 1891 census records him farming as an old man at Broad Rake, Ingleton ( a small town not far from Dent which is now famous for its waterfalls and limestone caves).
Nancy was born about 1849.
Mary was born about 1851. She worked as a kitchen maid in Settle, Yorks. before marrying Richard Clark in 1875. Richard was a provisions merchant who later ran a bakery and refreshment house in Settle. They had five sons and two daughters. This is as far as I have progressed with this line - like many other family history searchers I am awaiting the release of the 1911 census to make further progress.
Elizabeth was born in 1854. She was a general servant and housekeeper at Ireby (just across the county boundary in Lancashire) then at Halton Gill. She had a son, James in 1877. James subsequently worked for his grandfather at Broad Rake.
