Matthias Trood 1801 - 55

Matthias was born in 1801 in Broadclyst, Devon in 1801, the son of Matthias senior and his wife Charlotte, nee Bear.He was the only son and second child of five. In 1828 Matthias junior married Cullompton born Mary Trott at Topsham, south of Exeter on the River Exe.

Matthias and Mary Lived in Broadclyst and had 11 children (7 boys and four girls). Their only census record when they were still farming in Broadclyst is the 1841 census, although only three children were at home that evening. Their eldest son Thomas, for example was staying with his uncle Thomas in Silverton on the census night.
The children of Matthias and Mary were:
Thomas was born in Broadclyst in 1830. He was my wife's direct ancestor - more of Thomas later.
Mary was born in 1832 and seems to have died in infancy - another daughter was called Mary in 1837. It was obviously of great importance that a daughter perpetuated her mother's name.

Matthias was born in 1833 but died in Teignmouth in 1868.
Robert was born in 1835.
Edward was born in 1837 but died in Plymouth in 1865.
Frances was born in 1839. She died in Tiverton registration district in 1927.

Joseph and his twin brother William were born on the 9th of August 1840 but both died in infancy in 1840.
William Joseph was born in 1842.
Charlotte, the youngest child was born in 1846 at Broadclyst. In 1886 she married George Archibald Harvey in Bristol.
