The family of Charles Paley Spencer

Charles was born in Burnley in 1852. He married Mary Parkinson in Burnley in 1873. By 1881 he had moved to Barnsley in South Yorkshire where he was a cabinet maker and undertaker at Sheffield Road until his death in 1902. After Charled died Mary returned to Burnley where she died in 1915

Charles and Mary had at least 9 children but to the best of my knowledge only three survived to adulthood - Ruth, born 1879 became a teacher, Nellie (Mary Edith Ellen), who married George Herbert Jackson and their brother George. All three were teachers although Nellie would have given up teaching when she married. Nellie's husband George was a statistical clerk and stenographer.

George and Nellie had a son, George Ralph Spencer Jackson (1914-90), a doctor practising first as an army surgeon and later as a general practitioner in Sheffield. This George junior married Edith Grace Grimoldby. They had two sons.

George and Nellie also had a daughter Ruth Mary (1921-94).
