The family of Jeremiah Spencer

Jeremiah was born in 1848 in Burnley. He married Ann Heap at Holy Trinity Church in Habergham Eaves, Burnley in 1870. By trade he was a boot and shoe maker. They had two sons - John Albert (born 1873) and "Eber" (Ebenezer?) (born about 1880) and a daughter, Drusilla (born about 1877).

In 1881 Jeremiah was a boot and shoe maker at Burnley Road, Padiham, Lancs. At some time before 1891 the family moved to Fleetwood on the Lancashire coast where Jeremiah managed boot and shoe shops in Dock Street and London Street. Jeremiah's elder sister was living nearby in Birling Terrace.

John Albert was a boot and shoe maker/repairer. In 1910 he married Shropshire-born Amelia Skett in Preston. I have found no trace of any children of this marriage. The only address I have for them is at 28 Jemmett Street in Preston in the 1911 census.

Drusilla was married in 1908 to Bolton-born William Gloster Leigh. They had two daughters - Veda (born 1908 in Burnley) and Hilda (born 1910 in Burnley). William was an insurance agent. In 1911 the family was living at 7 Carr Street, Burnley. At some time after this the family moved to the West Midlands.

Veda married Samuel Yeomans in Birmingham in 1938. They had at least one daughter. Hilda married Albert Jones in Birmingham in 1932.
